Santee Prop 28 Plan - 2024-2025
In November 2022, California voters passed Proposition 28: The Arts and Music in Schools Funding Guarantee and Accountability Act. This new measure ensures ongoing support for arts education in schools starting in the 2023-2024 school year. Specifically, it allocates one percent of the K-12 portion of the Proposition 98 funding guarantee from the previous year, not including the Arts and Music in Schools (AMS) program funding.
The California Department of Education (CDE) will distribute grants to individual schools each year. Each school will then decide which arts education programs to offer, working with teachers, families, and students to meet the unique needs of their community.
The funds from Proposition 28 can be used for various arts education purposes, including instruction, training, supplies, materials, and partnerships with arts organizations. Supported art forms include dance, media arts, music, theater, and visual arts, covering areas like folk art, painting, sculpture, photography, craft arts, graphic arts, design, computer coding, animation, music composition, ensembles, script writing, costume design, film, and video. Prop 28 funding aims to enhance existing arts education at all school sites.
