The Santee School District Board of Education met at 6 p.m. May 7, 2024. Meeting highlights included:

Reports and Presentations

  • Spotlight on Education: The Board of Education honored a number of outstanding students for the excellent effort they have demonstrated this school year and the wonderful role models they have been to others. Honorees included:
    • Micah Withers, Cajon Park
    • Dina Daloy, Carlton Hills
    • Samuel Fink, Carlton Oaks
    • Ella Ramirez, Chet F. Harritt
    • Creedance Beckwith-O’Donnell, Hill Creek
    • Olivia Kerbrat, Pepper Drive
    • Levi Petrie, PRIDE Academy
    • Fin McPherson, Rio Seco
    • Ezekiel Velasquez de la Cruz, Sycamore Canyon

Discussion and/or Action Items

  • Melissa Northcutt was appointed as Human Resources Coordinator.
  • The Board approved the archiving of live meetings, making the recordings available on the District website for up to 30 days after each meeting. After 30 days, the recording will be removed from the District website. This will go into effect with the August 20, 2024, Regular Board Meeting.
  • The Board of Education has declared its official intention to call for a $30.6M tax extension bond election. The resolution, including appendices with the full text of the bond measure, an abbreviated form of the bond measure, and information on the tax rate, can be found in the Board Meeting Packet.

Board Policies and Bylaws
The Board adopted the following updates:

  • BP 6153 – School Sponsored Trips: Policy updated to reflect the law which eliminates the prohibition against the use of district funds to pay for the expenses of students participating in field trips or excursions to another state, to the District of Columbia, or to a foreign country.
  • BP 6162.5 - Student Assessment: Policy updated to reflect that use of technology in assessment shall be consistent with
  • Board Policy 5131.9 - Academic Honesty and Board Policy 6163.4 - Student Use of Technology. Additionally, per CA AB 114, 2023 school districts are required to track summary data on long term English Learners as a significant subgroup. Language has been added to exclude interim and formative assessments from being used in high stakes situations.
  • BP 6164.41 – Children with Disabilities Enrolled by Their Parents in Private School Policy updated to simplify language and include evaluation.
